Ethnomycology is defined as: The study of utilization of fungi by common people, as food or medicine, or in crafts, stories, or rituals.
This is exactly how Ethnomycology Inc started, as a curiosity by a couple of common people wanting to utilize the mushroom for our own reasons. Kenyon visited the lab I had set up in a spare bedroom at the house in Springfield and wanted to recreate it at his place in White Hall. It did not take long for the mushroom to take over both places, so we merged both labs to White Hall and worked out of a basement for almost a year. We started offering local restaurants our mushrooms, the interest was amazing, and we could barely keep up. It was at this point we realized the mushroom had taken control of us and there was nothing we could do, so we went all in! We invested in the equipment needed to streamline production. We outgrew the basement lab very quickly and are now building out the new labs and growing space in a 40’ x 60’ outbuilding on the farm in White Hall. We have also brought on my wife Tisha to lead the sales end of the business. We have much more in the works for Ethnomycology Inc. in the coming future.
At Ethnomycology Inc our goal goes beyond just providing fresh gourmet mushrooms for our customers. We are not self-proclaimed mycologists; we are not experts by any means. We are merely your average folks who see the benefits of the mushroom well beyond just a food source. Ethnomycology Inc, is late to the game by thousands of years. It does not take long in this field to see the communities and networks that mushrooms cultivated long before Ethnomycology Inc. Our goal is to become part of this network and contribute to this community.
At Ethnomycology Inc we are more than willing to learn, share, teach, collaborate, and promote the mushroom. A mushroom is the direct result of miles of mycelium working synergistically with nature just below the earth’s surface. Ethnomycology Inc wants to become a small part of this network.
